There's nothing quite like the feeling of leaving a salon with a stunning blowout that makes your hair look flawless and voluminous. However, frequent salon visits can be time-consuming and costly. The good news is that you can achieve a professional-quality blowout in the comfort of your own home! In this blog, we'll guide you through the step-by-step process of achieving a salon-worthy blowout at home, ensuring your hair looks fabulous every time.
1) Prepping Your Hair
Before diving into the blowout process, it's essential to start with clean, freshly washed hair. Use a high-quality shampoo and conditioner suitable for your hair type, ensuring your hair is free from any product buildup or oil.
2) Towel Dry and Apply Heat Protectant
Gently towel dry your hair to remove excess moisture without rubbing vigorously. Next, apply a heat protectant spray or serum to shield your hair from the potential damage caused by heat styling tools. Distribute the product evenly throughout your hair, paying extra attention to the ends.
3) Section Hair
Divide your hair into manageable sections using clips or hair ties. Start by separating the bottom section and gradually work your way up to the crown of your head. Smaller sections are easier to manage and ensure that each strand receives equal attention during the blowout process. I have found its easier to part my hair into 4 sections with styling clips.
4) Choose the Right Tools
Invest in a high-quality blow dryer with multiple heat and speed settings. Opt for a nozzle attachment to concentrate the airflow and achieve a smooth finish. Additionally, having a round brush with natural bristles in the appropriate size for your hair length is crucial. Smaller brushes work best for shorter hair, while larger brushes are ideal for longer hair. I recently invested in a Shark Flexstyle which has made the whole process a lot easier considering the multiple attachments it provides.
Other tools I have used that I LOVE include the Revlon One-Step and Conair 3-in-1 Hot Air Brush.
5) Begin Blow Drying
Start with the lower sections and work your way up. Take one section of hair at a time, starting at the roots, and use the round brush to roll the hair over and away from your face. Follow the brush with the blow dryer, directing the airflow downward along the hair shaft to smooth the cuticles and reduce frizz. If you are using a hot air brush simply brush your hair slowly making sure the full section is getting the same amount of heat. Repeat this process for each section until all of your hair is dry.
6) Add Volume and Curls
For added volume and bounce, use the round brush to lift the roots of your hair while blow drying. Roll the brush toward the crown of your head, focusing on the roots, and blast them with warm air. This technique creates lift and helps to maintain volume throughout the day. If you desire curls or waves, wrap the hair around the brush, apply heat for a few seconds, and then gently release. Repeat this process until you achieve your desired style.
7) Cool and Set
Once you've completed blow drying and styling your hair, give it a final blast of cool air using the cool shot button on your blow dryer. This helps to set the style, lock in the volume, and add shine. Allow your hair to cool down before running your fingers through it or applying any finishing products.
8) Finishing Touches
To complete your at-home salon blowout, apply a small amount of hair serum or oil to your palms and run it through your hair, focusing on the ends. This will add shine and reduce frizz. If desired, you can also use a hairspray to set your style and ensure it lasts throughout the day.
The Ouai Hair Oil is definitely one of my favorite things to use anytime I style my hair.
Achieving a salon-quality blowout at home is within reach with the right tools, techniques, and a little practice. By following the step-by-step guide outlined above, you can enjoy gorgeous, voluminous hair without the need for frequent salon visits. So, say goodbye to bad hair days and hello to professional-looking blowouts in the comfort of your own home!
